How to add page numbers to several PDF files

I'm working on a novel and I have over 200 PDF files for it (each file is a chapter of my book). I need to add page numbers to each file. Basically - the first file has page 1-5, second file 6-10, etc. What's the best way to do that automatically? I don't want to go through each file one-by-one.

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Seeing as you have each chapter is it’s own separate file you would have to do it manually to the best of my knowledge. There is no way to tell the next file what the last page number was. The only other way is combine the files into one, number the whole file, then split them back up if that is what you want. The problem you face is if you go back and edit a chapter, and it causes a new page to be created, then all the subsequent files would have to be renumbered again.

Probably it may not possible in one go. The job requires time and patience. You can merge/ join all the pdf files and make it a single file. Then try to use auto number feature of Adobe PDF, the help is here: https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/add-headers-footers-pdfs.html

Also you can convert the file into a Word document, then use word's auto number feature and when the job will be done, convert it to PDF.
