We are running a Data File Transfer from the iSeries to Excel 2010, using the Add In off of Excel for File Transfer From iSeries.
We can only download 64K records. How can we get this size limit to be larger?
Our iSeries is at V7.1 and our client Access is at V6 and/or V7 for various users.
We want to use the ADD In features off of Excel and not have to go thru Client Access File Transfer. If anyone knows how to increase this limit please advise.

Please verify both that it is Excel 2010 that shows the problem and that iSeries Access on the PC is 6.1 or later. If both are verified, then be sure that a current iSeries Access service pack is on the PC.
Although iSeries Access V5R4 was updated to allow the higher Excel 2007 limits, it won’t recognize Excel 2010 (because it’s too new to be recognized by V5R4). But 6.1 and 7.1 should have no problem with Excel 2010… if service packs are appropriate.
As a wild possibility, you might try removing the add-in and reinstalling. Perhaps an older version needs to be replaced just for that feature.

Are you sure this is an Excel limit. I just ran into a similar issue with a user who had reached Max Storage Limit set on her user profile. Increased her storage limit and her transfers thru Excel Addin worked thereafter.

Interesting thought about user/server storage. It’d be educational to find that’s the cause. It didn’t seem likely though. Since the question says that records can be downloaded, it doesn’t seem related to a user limit on the server. No records at all should be downloaded if a user limit interfered on the server.Since the number of rows goes to 64k, it seems at least extremely coincidental to the historic Excel limit. thank you for the responses. We are at client Access 6.1 and higher. Excel 2010 is what we are using. We are not aware of any service packs for V7.1 being available. If you know of any that would be really helpful.

If you’re using iAccess 6.1, then you want service packs for 6.1, not 7.1. Server-side PTFs might also be needed. (And note that the latest service pack for 7.1 has been available since May 2012.)
But it was asked for verification. It’s a good idea to ensure that current service packs are applied when attempting to resolve problems. And we need to know what versions/releases/service packs are being used before trying to track down a possible problem source.

Glad the service pack seems to have worked. When the service pack page shows a new one is available, it’s useful to download the new one to local storage. Then if problems appear, it’s on hand for immediate install and test. — Tom
