 Active Directory Migration/Restructure – Windows 2000 SP4
Hi, Question about Active Directory Migration - we have a 2-domain Active Directory Forest - Windows 2000 SP4 (the Forest Root domain and a second domain tree (not installed as a child of the root domain tree). Presently, we use the second domain for most of our operational purposes and only a bit of the root (for instance all database servers, mail servers, proxy servers etc are installed in the second domain). We are planning a re-organisation of some sort which would allow us to move all the operational objects (users, groups, computers/servers etc) to the Forest root domain, leaving the second domain for testing and development purposes. What is the best way to go about doing this? What are the best tools to use? Thank you so much for you help.

Answer Wiki:
Start with ADMT (Active Directroy Migration Tool)> It is Microsoft, it is effective, and if you do your design first a simple walk-through. Please note I said do your design first. Have every OU, every CN, every user - printer- server diagrammed and it is straight forward. If you have 'Exchange', do the migration first. Most migration problems come from changing direction in the middle of the process. Good Luck.
