Accessing unread marks in Lotus Notes mail file

I've a user who has requested that I create two views withion his mail file 1 whihc will only contain unread emails and the other which will only contain read emails. I need to be able to access the property which identifies a document as read but haven't been able to do so as of yet. If anyone has any idea I'd appreciate you assistance. TIA

It’s a little more complicated than just a document property. See here:

You have already this functionnality !
You could activate it with a button in the InBox view at the right of the button bar (something like “Show only unread”)

    Thanks but that doesn't allow the user to toggle between only readna dn unread plus the user want to show only read by default
