Accessing a MySQL database using Visual Basic.

I am trying to write an application in Visual Basic and need to connect to a MySQL database running on the same computer. I would like to use a Provider to connect to MySQL rather than use ODBC. The reason being this application will be deployed on 100 computers and I don't want to go to each one to create an ODBC link. Is there a way to connect to MySQL from VB without using ODBC? If not, do I HAVE TO use MyODBC driver?? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks... Moe

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Using a latest version of ADO you should be able to connect to your database (though I have not worked with MySQL and that may be different).

As for deployment, you can build some initation procedures that create the required settings (I know these are API based calls but we have to get the thing done, don’t we?) on a client workstation.

And finally, if you manage to connect using ADO 2.8 then you will have to distribute that “mdac_type.exe” with your deliverable and you’ll have to include that in your setup anyway.

Just some thoughts.
