We are considering moving some apps from individual blades (a growing expense) to a partition of an existing, underused i520. One hang up is DASD, especially moving or reloading the terabytes of data currently held in our SAN. With the new partioning of an i5, especially when running an AIX, or Windows partition it seems that we might be able to access a SAN. Is this a fair expectation? Has any one had success with this, or are we still tied to the 'internal' iSeries storage?

We are currently have several of our iSeries systems attached to external DASD. We are currently using 2 IBM Sharks. We have tested the EMC also. You need fiber IOA to the SAN and can even setup Dual Paths. It is still best to keep some of the most used data internal, but we haven’t really seen any performance hits as of yet. We have been running this configuration for about 2 years.
We have Power6 520, and have maxed out on our DASD, could anyone tell me installing VMAX 1.0 as a SAN to iSeries as storage solution? The LUNS are already created and it need just to configure. Any guidance and docs?
