 Access point running off router that is running off primar dsl modem/router
  1. I have an access point running off router that is running off primar dsl modem/router. the access point provides wifi to guests on a different subnet.
  2. will the people logged into the acesspoints ip be registered on the primary router ? or will the acess points ip be logged ?

I believe that the modem only sees the router (because of the router NATing the devices connected to it) and the router only sees the access point (because the access point NATs the devices connected to it. So, in that case, as far as the modem knows, all traffic comes from the IP address of the router. And, as far as the router knows, all traffic comes from the IP address of the access point. That’s per the scenario you described, and not including any other devices at all.

I’m making an assumption that NAT is taking place…but I feel comfortable with that assumption.

It woul appear that Koohiisan is correct.. The reason I ask is someone attempted to hack via RDP from the open wiFI and I can see no record of the other subnet recorded on the netopia 3000….. curious

Hmm, that setup makes it pretty much impossible (as you’ve seen) to track down the culprit at this point. You may want to see if there is a way to isolate their access on a separate vlan, if your router supports it (or if it supports an alternate firmware like DD-WRT which supports it) in order to prevent any of the open access users from affecting your normal network.
