access denied when copying across the network
When I try to copy files from an XP machine in my network, I often get access denied on certain files, but not others even though those folders are marked shared. It seems that some attribute is set on some files and not others. I've asked this question to more than 100 people, and nobody has ever given me a helpful answer. They also say check permissions. When I ask what permissions, they say "I don't know." Well how can permissions cause one file to copy while the other does not??? Therefore, there must be some file attribute issue that applications are creating. And, even that doesn't make sense, because it's often the same application creating files that do copy and those that don't. If anybody can shed some light onto this insanity, I will be most greatful. Thanks.

Answer Wiki:
There are several reasons you can get the Access denied error. Some files will NOT copy if they are in use like database files and outlook pst's. More often than not the issue is security and you are being hit with a quota or inability to copy certain file types. Where are you trying to copy the files to? Are you an Administrator on the box you are trying to copy to? What file types are being blocked? I get lots of questions like this daily over at <a href="http://www.askTheAdmin.com">AskTheAdmin.com</a> and they are always a little different. If you post some more info we will get this fixed up for you ASAP! As for checking the security permissions of the target folder right click the folder and choose properties and then security you will see all the security information there.
