Hello to everyone. I really need an answer to this question. anyone that can help, it is extremely appreciated. I have a database that has a number column, which relates to a text colum. the text colum has two differnt types of information in it. i need to add the number column, but only for certain data in the text colum. Example number column / text column 523 / hats 309 / shoes 9485 / hats 99 / hats 38 / shirts 38578 / hats i need a total of the numbers for the hats only. can anyone help me with the formula. thank you.

Hi,

I think what you are looking for is a query similar to the following:

SELECT SUM(<number column name>) FROM <table name> WHERE <text column name> = ‘hats’

If this doesn’t solve your problem, it may be helpful to know the data types of columns are, as well as the column and table names to make the question easier to answer.

    1) Lets creat a table called ItmId with one text field named "ItmId" the table will contain : hats shirts etc.... 2) Creat a form called Slct_Itm with a combo field to list the ItmId table contents (cmbItm), and a push botton to open the following query 3) Then query your database as follows : ItmId ItmQty Group Sum criteria Forms!Slct_Itm!cmbItm You can use the query aas a form's or a report's source Hope this will work for you, Good luck
