All you have to do is right-click a file and go to RENAME and give it any extension you want. You will get a message that the file may become unstable, but that does not stop you. for example create a simple .txt file and save it as sample.txt. Now go rename it as sample.xxx . Clicking on the file alone may not open it as expected. Right-Click and select OPEN WITH and pick notepad or word and you will see the data.

BTW, if you don’t know what created a file, you can’t be certain about what can process it. Anyone can create a file with a .A01 extension (or almost any extension) and put whatever they want in it. — Tom

A simple Google search for [ file extension a01 ] gives plenty of detail. It seems unlikely that the data is “encrypted”; it’s probably just encoded as compressed data. — Tom
