 Windows Server 2008 Enterprise and sysprep
I have a new 2008 server which is running as a VM. I have installed service Pack 2 and some common programs such as winzip etc and added some standard shortcuts on the desktop. Initially I had set a static IP and RDP to the server to make all the changes. Once I was ready I set the server back to DHCP and ran sysprep via the console. I set the sysprep to Generalize and shutdown for the option. I then restarted the server and ran the capture image from WSUS. When the server completed the image capture I setup a static IP, this is when the problems started. For some reason the network showed a red cross and was not available. I can ping the server and connect via mapping a local drive but cannot RDP. Has anyone ever seen this problem.

You should check the sysprep log files to see what has been changed if you have not already done so. They can be found at:

%WINDIR%System32SysprepPanther
