One of my Customer reports that his Router(1700 series of Cisco) is running SLOW.I don't understand what he means. Is there any means to ascertain that the functionality of Router is Slow?Any commands to view that status? I believe if a router is felt functioning SLOW,either we may need to increase the DRAM or need to goto Higher series. Is my belief correct.Kindly suggest.

i don’t really know any cisco command for you . Also check if there is no virus on the network that is increasing the traffic thereby slowing down the router and also have a look at his bandwidth management that could solve the problem.

a simple ping to a device on another subnet should be able to give you an idea as to the response time.

Several things you can check. One, do a show interface to make sure you don't see any errors. If you do, you could have a bad interface. As one person suggested, do ping tests from both the router and your PC. Compare the times. If they are drastically different you can investigate where the bottleneck is. You can do a sh ver and then go to Cisco's website to see the recommended memory for your IOS. Make sure your router has the recommened memory.
