We did not consider any other hosting solutions because they had more features (like hosted Exchange) than what we needed. The other alternative was appliance(s) at the network edge. Then you would need to provision the appropriate bandwidth to handle all of the junk mail in addition to the good mail. With Postini and similar services, the filtering happens “in the cloud” so the impact on the company’s network edge is greatly reduced.
