Here’s what the Wireless Sharp Home page now says “The Wireless# certification and exam (PW0-050) will be retired on June 30, 2009. Any candidate who has earned Wireless# will be automatically grandfathered into the new CWTS certification, which will be the replacement for Wireless#.” See http://www.cwnp.com/certifications/wsharp/ for confirmation (you can’t get to this page by navigating, but you can be searching, which is how I found this info for you).

I currently hold a Wireless# certificate. Does only the name change or do I have to retake the exam? Thanks!

Dear Anne:
Thanks for posting to my blog. Great to see you here. AFAIK, CompTIA has pulled back on its charter to create new certs to areas where its major members request them to provide coverage, or where they see big market opportunities. Right now, the CWNP pretty much owns the wireless networking cert space, and most CompTIA members are happy enough with that coverage to not press CompTIA to add another credential in this area–or so an “unnamed source” tells me, anyway.

The CWTS designation is a solid entry-level WiFi certification, but I can’t help but wonder when/if CompTIA will ever pick back up the Wireless+ certification they dropped before it was ever actually launched back in 2002/2003. Do you have ideas about that?
