Thanks to both Suzanne Wheeler and SJ19 for their comments on this post. From the former, I’m glad for independent confirmation that my correspondent has more to claim for himself than he apparently thinks. From the latter, I’m likewise convinced that persistence, grit, and determination are all qualities necessary to “hang in there’ while waiting for opportunity to knock.

It’s hard to find a job in almost every industry. Times are really tough right now. I think that people wanting to get into IT have to be persistent and not rule out working from the ground up. I started off selling knives at [A href="http://www.linkedin.com/companies/vector-marketing"]Vector [/A]and now I manage my own office.

Countless numbers of us have gained IT experience in positions not traditionally noted as being in IT. This young man is no exception. He has had plenty of IT experience for his short years and now wishes to focus on that as a full-time career. I am confident he can rework his resume to display the projects and skills he used that apply to traditional IT jobs. Just because your experience is hidden behind an assuming job title does not mean a lack of experience. Best of luck!
