Hi folks! So you have Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) and you want to monitor not just Hyper-V but VMware vSphere too?

Some people are content to use a myriad of tools under multiple panes of glass, but If or one prefer the single pane of glass for my monitoring. Well the good folks at Veeam have developed a management pack that plugs right into SCOM and provides VMware monitoring right back into that single pane of glass.

The product is called Veeam nWorks and it is the cat’s meow. There are other solutions that can achieve similar goals, but in my opinion none go as deep as Veeam. Veeam also has their own custom metrics that they can alert on that make it an even more attractive solution.

Check it out and give it a try!

It’s one of my favourite backup solutions for VMware environments. Veeam has been steadily improving it’s product offering and has always been at the forefront of virtual machine backup solutions in my opinion. Now they have gone a step farther.

Veeam is offering an NFR copy of Veeam free to VCP’s! Now that’s the way a company should do it! This will do wonders for the VCP community and I applaud Veeam for helping all of us VCP’s out!

You can read more about it here to get your free NFR key.

Hi folks, as you know I’m a big fan of virtualization, and for backups I love Veeam which is great at backing up my virtual machines.

Well recently announced from Veeam is Veeam SureBackup which contains a lot of the same features from Veeam that you have grown to know and love, but also contains the ability to check backups without going through a lengthy restore process.

You can basically do a recovery verification by starting up the virtual machine from the backup file and verify that it works. Now that’s cool! You can learn more here.

Hi folks! So further to my last post, once you’ve decided on free space for your LUN, how the heck do you monitor it?

There are a few scripts out there that will do this for you and a few free programs that will show you the free space. But how do you get it to check and then email you an alert if you go past your set threshold? Veeam of course!

The good people at Veeam have a product called Veeam Monitor, which will not only monitor your storage but also monitor a myriad of other VMware related things. Features such as hardware monitoring and performance analysis will also help you with your VMware administration duties.

You can check out the free version of Veeam Monitor here and if you like it you can then opt to purchase the full product.
