Hi folks! So unless you have been hiding under a rock, you would have heard about the announcement of the BlackBerry PlayBook by now.

So what is it? It’s RIM’s answer to the iPad. Now that Apple has made tablet computing hip and cool, RIM has thrown their hat in the ring. The question is, will it be successful?

Well RIM has done a few things right. According to the announcement it will sport the same functionality of regular BlackBerries to attach to a BES server which will make the corporate types happy. This goes a long way to pleasing an already existing customer base.

However there is just one problem. Is it going to have app support? The current array of BlackBerries have a dismal array of apps available. There are only a few “must have” apps on the BlackBerry in my opinion as compared to Android or iPhone. I think BlackBerry needs to address app support issues before they try and sell the PlayBook. Because if I have no apps to use on my Playbook no matter how good the technical specifications are, why would I buy one?
