Getting ready to write my last CCNP exam

Hi folks! As I’ve mentioned before, I have one more exam left in the CCNP track from Cisco. I was getting ready earlier to finish my CCNP ONT exam (642-845) but then had to stop and change direction to write some different exams that I needed to get done. So I never got around to going for it yet.

Well now I have the time and I’m back on track! So coming soon I will write my CCNP ONT exam and hopefully knock it out of the ballpark. Right now I’m knee deep in reading about QoS, VoIP and all that other good stuff that makes up the ONT.

The wireless stuff regarding WLSE and the SDM stuff seems severely outdated as it’s not something you’d use these days, but like I posted before, they have updated the CCNP certification and it’s changing for the better. Now that we have a wireless track with Cisco, all of that material will get moved over there, and as far as the SDM goes, I hope it just goes away.

I shall keep you guys posted on how the exam goes!

Preparing for Cisco ONT exam

Hi folks! Now it’s time to start preparing for the Cisco ONT(642-845) exam! This is my last exam in the CCNP series (BSCI, BCMSN, ISCW, ONT).

I suspect this next one will take just as much preparation as the previous ones. The difference with the ONT over the previous ISCW is that it doesn’t look like it’s going to be boring at all. The material looks quite cool! Topics covered according to Cisco’s exam topic web site include:

VoIP implementations
QoS considerations
DiffServer QoS implementations
AutoQoS
WLAN security and management

That last topic seems oddly out of place with the rest of them, but that doesn’t matter, I love wireless topics! So once again I will be using the Bryant Advantage study guides, with a combination of my course material and notes from my CCNP boot camp at Boson with instructor CCIE Bryan Baize, and also the Cisco Press exam/study guides. CCNP, here I come!

CCNP Boot Camp

Hi folks, so for the last week I’ve been in Florida at a CCNP boot camp studying and training day in and day out. I have one more week to go and I have to say it has been quite intense. The CCNP ain’t anything to take lightly. This certification will chew you up and spit you out!

Luckily the great folks at Boson have a boot camp available and i’ve been lucky enough to get a great instructor, Bryan Baize. Bryan Baize (CCIE 16139) is a CCIE (the PHD of network certifications in my opinion) and a fabulous instructor. His ability to recall the most obscure facts and answer all of your questions and his ability to convey concepts to the students is just great.

As a former IT instructor myself, I can wholeheartedly recommend using the Boson boot camps as part of your training regiment for the CCNP. I will keep you guys up to date on my progress in my quest for this certification. One more week to go!
