Hi folks, so unless you have been hiding under a rock, you’ve heard that Jim has resigned from the RIM board.
What do I think about this? I think it’s about time! By doing this, maybe RIM can move forward without the influence of the former co-ceo.
This should enable RIM to re-focus and hopefully accomplish what they need to do in the next quarter. You can read more here.
Hi folks! So in the past i’ve spoken about other wireless solutions such as Cisco. Today I wanted to talk a little bit about Meru Networks.
Meru Networks is a wireless company dedicated to selling wireless solutions. They don’t do anything else but that. They have a neat solution where they use a single channel instead of multiple channels and then crank the power on the AP’s to full to achieve good wireless connectivity. This helps with co-channel interference since everything is sitting in the same channel controlled by the controller.
The controller also truly gives airtime fairness by allocating time equally amongst clients. This way the speed of your wireless network is not dictated by the slowest client. This allows you to deploy very high density environments in mixed mode 802.11 a/b/g/n environments.
If you haven’t had a chance to check Meru out, I suggest you do. They are very price competitive and great in high density environments. In this day and age of BYOD (Bring Your Own Device), it’s only going to be a matter of time where you will need a strong wireless solution.

Hi folks! So as you know there have been a ton of rumors going around about the Galaxy S3. For those of you that are Android fans you will be waiting in anticipation for this phone.
Some people have been wondering what some of the nicknames are going to be for the upcoming phone. Well it was recently announced that they have filed for trademark names in the US as “Thunder”, “Express”, and “Accelerate”.
This is just a rumor however and not confirmed. You can read more about the Samsung Galaxy S3 here.
Hi folks! So you’ve obviously heard by now about the acquisition of Motorola by Google. This is just further evidence of the close ties between the telephony world and the computer world.
Really more and more these days you see a merging of these two industries and this acquisition is just another example of that. This is great for Google which could help them bolster their offerings in the Android market in their eternal battle against Apple.
However it’s not so good for the other vendors who have historically made products on the Android platform such as Samsung. I can’t imagine a deal with Motorola bodes well for them.
If anything I’m sure we will see Samsung doing more with Windows phone in the future. Nokia actually made a public statement to that effect. Nokia seems to think that there future will be with Windows phone and that Google’s acquisition of Motorola will put the rest of the phone makers at a disadvantage. I can’t say I disagree with Nokia on this one. Time will tell.
Hi folks, so if you’re part of the IT community and live in Canada, bill C-30 should be important to you. Not because you want it, but because you want to avoid it in any way you can!
Bill C-30 authorizes governments to get your private information from ISP’s without a warrant. Some people say that we should just let them do this. I for one can see how many a government official could severely abuse this.
If you are Canadian, please voice your opposition to your local politician about this bill!
Hi folks! So if you read my previous post, you know you can get a free PlayBook by upgrading to BES version 5 by March 31st, 2012. Well there is another way as well.
Developers submitting applications to RIM can also get a free PlayBook. This offer was so popular that RIM has extended it to March 2nd, 2012. The PlayBook seems to be making a bit of a comeback in Canada where it’s market share has slightly increased.
It would be nice to see it stay in the competition to give the iPad and Android based tablets a run for their money. Like I always say, competition is great for the consumer!

So RIM is offering a great deal for prospective people wanting to upgrade to BES 5. If you upgrade to BES 5 before March 31st, 2012 you will get a free PlayBook!
Now if you have a huge BES implementation, this might not be enough time to get a project such as this off the ground, but if you have a smaller implementation, you should be able to easily handle the upgrade.
Why should you be running BES? Well another than the obvious reason of staying up to date with the latest secure code and patches, as well as support from RIM, you should upgrade to prepare yourself for Mobile Fusion.
Mobile Fusion is the software from RIM that will allow you to manage other devices than BlackBerries. This has a requirement of BES version 5.0.3. So upgrade now and get that free PlayBook!
Hi folks, so if you’re interested in fooling around with new operating systems, the Windows 8 consumer preview is here!
Obviously you’re not going to want to run this in production, and you are sure to have some issues in testing, but that’s what testing is all about.
So if you have a test machine or want to run it virtually to test it, you can go here to get the preview.
