MySpace is sold

Posted by: Raj Perumal
Facebook, MySpace, News Corp, sale, sells

Hi folks! So another social networking social site has been sold. News Corp finally decided to sell MySpace. They sold it for much less than they bought it for.

This is no big surprise, since Facebook currently rules the roost. Not to say that MySpace didn’t have it’s place. It helped kick off the social networking era. MySpace will probably go the way of the dodo and if RIM isn’t careful they will follow in MySpace’s footsteps.

People love the Facebook experience and if other sites want to compete, they are going to have to step up their game!

Sega too?

Hi folks! It seems like big companies are dropping like flies in the wake of security attacks across the globe!

First Sony, now Sega? Apparently 1.3 million people were affected by the attack at Sega! This begs the question, what the heck are companies doing about security? Why is this happening so much?

I think this largely happens because people adopt a wait and see approach about patching and don’t patch until it’s too late. People also  tend to think it will never happen to them. I think in this day and age everyone should be mindful about computer security and step it up a notch!

Save your life with a smartphone!

Hi folks! Now this is just cool! Apparently doctors have used smartphones to help save lives!

As most of you smartphone users know, smartphones are great devices for taking pictures and sending them in a flash! As they say the best camera to have is the one you have readily available when you need to take a picture.

Apparently during an operation for someone, the doctors needed to consult with other doctors and used the smartphone to take pictures of the patient and send them to other colleagues to get valuable advice during the operation. This saved valuable time and saved the person’s life!

Split CEO and Chairman roles

BlackBerry, CEO, Chairman, investor, RIM, split

Hi folks, so as you have probably read in the news RIM is having a whole host of troubles.

Investors are calling for a split in roles for the head honchos and I couldn’t agree more. Without a clearly defined leader, this just leads to confusion for the staff of RIM.

They need to appoint a dedicated CEO and create a dedicated vision that is different than what they have now. Otherwise RIM will just continue to sink.

RIM’s letter

Hi folks! So the pain keeps coming for RIM!

An anonymous employee at RIM decided to call out the top brass at RIM and tell them everything they are doing wrong! If you read the letter it makes for some very entertaining reading.

I have to say there are a lot of points the guy makes that make a lot of sense.

World IPv6 Day!

IPV6, World IPv6 day

Hi folks! So you know what today is? World IPv6 day!

This is the day where many organizations around the world actively participate in an IPv6 trial. They are doing this to essentially work out any kinks in the system. This is a great initiative and will help us prepare for the day when we all have to go to IPv6.

I know some of you think this day is a long time away, but it’s closer than you think. There are over 400 organizations  participating in this event, even such companies as Google and Cisco.

You can read more about it here.

Microsoft to demo new operating system

Microsoft, operating system, OS, tablet

Hi folks! So this just in, Microsoft is getting ready to demo a new operating system for tablets!

The rumor is that they will make an announcement quite soon. As you know they earlier announced that they would let Windows 7 support ARM but I don’t know if that is the case with this announcement.

Whatever they end up demoing, hopefully it’s better than RIM’s dismal PlayBook launch. Here’s hoping that we can have some real competition happen in the tablet arena from Microsoft!

Samsung and Apple lawsuit

Apple, lawsuit, Samsung

Hi folks! So you probably have heard about the lawsuit Apple brought against Samsung. This was for copying the look and feel of the iPhone with their own devices.

Well now this trial has taken an interesting turn. Samsung is requesting to see Apple’s upcoming devices such as the iPad 3 and the iPhone 5. I think it will be a cold day in hell before Apple gives in to show these devices.

Granted, the terms are for only the lawyers to look at the devices, not any engineers, but still, this has got to make Steve Jobs extremely ticked off!  It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

You can read more about it here.

Hi folks! Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock you’ve heard that the new revisions of the Sandy Bridge motherboards are out!

The older ones that have the problems should be next to impossible to find but just in case you are worried just look for the “B3″ logo on the product you are buying. This will ensure that you are buying the fixed version of the motherboard!

Hi folks! So for the last post in my wireless series this month, I wanted to speak about the brand new Cisco 2500 seriess WLC!

The new 2500 WLC supports 802.11n and comes with support for 5, 15, 25, and 50 access points. You do not need to buy separate hardware if you want to upgrade in the future, you can just purchase the appropriate license and upgrade your controller to support more access points.

One of the cool features is the ability to support Cisco OfficeExtend which allows you to place an AP at home and when you connect to it, you can connect to your corporate office.

You can read about the 2500 series WLC here.
