Great switch for home use

Hi folks! So for those of you looking to setup a computer lab at home for training, things can get quite expensive. For example, the need for a managed poe switch in a home lab these days is pretty much a requirement.

Where can you find something that is small enough for home use, can do vans, and have poe capability with gigabit speeds for a good price? Well Netgear makes some great low end products that are just fine for a home use lab. In particular I like the GS108PE switch.

This is an 8 port gigabit POE switch that allows you to do vlans in a limited fashion. You’re allowed to have vlans numbered from 1 through 8 only, but this is more than enough for testing in a lab environment. The best part? The switch is dirt cheap. You can easily find it for $150 CAD online.
