I work in HP storage and have since 1990. I have a blog on storage and hit on this topic yesterday (see [A href="http://h30507.www3.hp.com/t5/Around-the-Storage-Block-Blog/HP-storage-update-looking-around-the-storage-block/ba-p/87347"]. The main point I make is that Dell paid $2.1B to buy Compellent and EqualLogic, two midmarket arrays, while HP paid $2.4B for LeftHand and 3PAR, a midmarket and enterprise array. I think it’s humorous that after losing 3PAR, Michael Dell is out talking about how HP paid too much. I guess I should expect him to admit defeat.

There’s very little overlap between 3PAR and Compellent – so its like asking who wins a hockey game between an NHL team and a University team – they just don’t play in the same league.
