This has become very frustrating for me as well. I run a IT consulting firm and purchased a laptop back in November. Over the last couple of months I have bought several pieces of software that simply will not work correctly on my 64bit Vista OS. This includes a business card scanner and Salesforce.com software which will not work with my Outlook running on a 64 bit computer. These software vendors are going to start having issues going forward as most computers are now shipping with only 64bit versions of Windows Vista. I have to say that I'm pretty turned of from doing business with Salesforce.com and CardScan after having these issues.

I briefly ran 64bit windows XP and although I was impressed with the performance of the OS I was constantly frustrated with the lack of compatible software and drivers to the point where I eventually gave up and switched back to 32bit.

Developers really have been slow to adopt the 64bit OS. Many of them likely due to a lack of knowledge on the 64bit SDK's. Programming in 32bit has been standard for over a decade and the reverse compatibility is babying too many of them.

I guess I'm just too attached to my 15-pin gameport to come into the 21st century of OS's.
