Oh my WORD, who should I thank for this article, yes you Thomas. My name is Aidan and I'm sitting on the other side of the Blue Ball, and I'm feeling exactly what your saying. I'm currently employed, I live and work in Cape Town. I'm a PC technician (IT's baby brother). I totally agree with the requirements it's ludicrous. Database admin, WAN/LAN, Software development, SQL. And sometimes HR can't even sum it up, the would say something like, " Candidate needed is a Network administration and needs to setup and maintain the network, than the would add simple stuff like installing network devices, setting up routers, which is basically covered if you just say Network administration. My take is we have people that knows nothing about technology looking for people that knows technology. I were about to give you some advice on how to go about get your job, but not sure if it works the same in the states, here we have like recruitment agency's, (Kelly, Quest, etc) they are the ones interviewing you, slide through your Resume. And if they find you competent they will escort you to a company and you go straight in. Hell with that lady with pointy glasses in HR that knows absolutely nothing about IT, that is why she is sitting in HR in the first place.
