Apple, bbm, Blackberry Messenger, google, IM, microsoft, RIM, RIM aquisition, smartphone, Vodafone
Its a substantial rumour that has caused RIM’s stocks to rise. In the wake of the announcement of the new iPhone 4S, many people were left uninspired, sure its faster, and has some cool new voice features, but that’s it, iOS 5 will be available to many current iPhone users all the way from 3GS and up… so really not everyone is going to jump for the new phone… anyways I went as little bit off track there. The reason all these rumors have spawned is because of the lack of general interest in the iPhone 4S, its left investors to take a second look at RIM and the fact that its flagship Bold 9900 has made a big name for itself. Now a lot people think, including me, that a phone company like Vodafone wouldn’t really benefit from the acquisition, I do however see benefit for Microsoft, Google, or Apple. Why you ask? Well I think we all know. They want what Blackberry does best, email and instant messaging (BlackBerry Messenger). Just think of the droves of users any on of those vendors would acquire if they implemented BBM into their phones (do it right though!!!). So should Vodafone buy RIM? No. Should one of the aforementioned icons? Yes. Would I rather see RIM survive as its own entity, of course!
