Mozilla just released Firefox 5 the other day, they have moved to a quick-release schedule in the hope to bring new features to users and developers sooner.

Mozilla has three main versions of Firefox now: the release version for mainstream users, the beta version with new features under testing, and the most raw, Aurora, a version to introduce those new features. Those three versions correspond to Chrome’s stable, beta, and dev releases. There’s also a nightly Firefox build for those who want to try whatever patches have arrived in the last 24 hours, but it’s most likely to be unstable.

The new process means that whatever is done on a particular schedule can ship in the new version–a more calendar-focused process than feature-focused process. One goal of the approach is to reduce the penalty of missing a train, because with a rapid release cycle, another train should come to the station soon.

“The shift to a rapid release development cycle delivers cutting edge Firefox features, performance enhancements, security updates and stability improvements to users faster,” Mozilla said in its blog post announcing the Firefox 5 beta. “After five weeks of testing on the Firefox Aurora channel, the next version of Firefox is ready for the beta channel.”

Another feature in the new beta is the ability to switch among the various versions of Firefox by clicking “change” in the “About Firefox” dialog box.

I used to use Firefox back when Internet Explorer was lacking, but so far Internet Explorer 9 is awesome, I have no complaints. So as far as i’m concerned, Firefox, keep releasing your browser revisions and I will keep using IE9

Yet, its nowhere close to Windows XP overall penetration of the global operating systems market (54%).

Windows 7, in contrast, is flourishing both at home and at work. Microsoft cites an IDC estimate that 90 percent of corporations are currently in the process of migrating to Windows 7, and Redmond claims that deploying Windows 7 will allow businesses to save around $140 per PC per year. This corporate take-up should have some nice side-effects—notably, it’ll be another nail in the coffin of Internet Explorer 6.

Windows 7 will catch up to Windows XP, but by that time Windows 8 will be almost ready.

Please tell me you are reading my blog from Windows 7, or anywhere by Windows XP… time to move on my friends.

Well, the scenario is that I lost the ability to manage the storage controllers via a web browser. I could ping each controller fine, and I could also telnet into them, which is great, because with telnet you can fix this issue.

Go to Command Prompt.

Type telnet 192.168.x.x (whatever the IP is of the controller)

Enter the username and password. MSA default username and password is manage and !manage

Once you have successfully authenticated with the storage controller you can restart that controller, wait about 30 seconds before restarting the second controller, or you will loose ALL communication to the MSA, temporarily of course, although this will be enough time for iSCSI targets to most likely dismount.

Anyways, the process of restarting the controller is documented below.

Login: manage
Password: *******

HP StorageWorks MSA2012i
System Name: Uninitialized Name
System Location: Uninitialized Location
Version: W421R07

# restart mc b
During the restart process you will briefly lose communication with the specifie
d Management Controller(s).
Continue? y
Info: Restarting Local MC B…

Success: Command completed successfully
#

Once both controllers have been restarted I can pretty much guarantee that you will be able to manage the MSA once again via browser.

Microsoft’s new iteration of browser is on the horizon, while the beta embraces HTML 5, it has marginal speed gains(up to 9 times) while rendering pages.

In the very first report of browsers’ scalability compared to IE7 in Vista SP2, the IE9 tech preview in Windows 7 scored a 6.57 compared to IE8′s score of 1.13. That means, we believe IE9′s new “Chakra” interpreter offers 581.4 percent greater efficiency than IE8 at speeding up when workloads increase.

While not just anyone can have access to the test build, Microsoft is seeking to engage web developers to test out the core functionality. Microsoft plans to release a new build every 8 weeks.

Ill try to keep everyone in the loop as development progresses.

Well its about time the Microsoft is putting some new and useful things into IE9, instead of waiting for Google Chrome or Firefox to implement some cool new feature, then just copy it… here is a statement from Dean Hachamovitch.

“This is a direct improvement to everybody’s usage of the Web on a daily basis,” Hachamovitch said in an interview after Sinofsky’s speech. “Web developers are doing what they did before, only now they can tap directly into a PC’s graphics hardware to make their text work better and graphics work better.”

A couple of interesting improvements are frame rates when resizing text, Bing Maps(frame rate jumps from 5-8fps to almost 60fps) Java scripting has been improved also. How did they do this? They are using something called Direct2D which lets IE9 use hardware acceleration for web graphics, much in the same was as 3D games harness the GPU.

I guess Microsoft finally realized that they have to pour some resources back into Internet Explorer considering that Mozilla Firefox has 25% of the browser share and IE slipping to around 63%. They definitely don’t want to slip below 60% that would look ugly.

Check out the video, its quite interesting. accelerated

“When you’re surfing online, privacy is really a matter of degree. If you’re browsing unprotected, site owners can manage to figure out quite a lot about you based on where you go. Many browsers now offer so-called privacy modes, but those don’t come close to masking everything about you. Even advanced proxy systems aren’t always a complete privacy panacea.”

These updates usually force Microsoft to add the same to their browser, but I doubt that Microsoft would allow ANY modification to their browser even though its just scripting…
