After you have determined the design you would like to implement, you can follow the steps in the Exchange 2010 Mailbox Server Role Design Example article within the Exchange 2010 Online Help to calculate your solution’s CPU, memory, and storage requirements, or you can leverage the Exchange 2010 Mailbox Server Role Requirements Calculator.

There is a giant article that explains the whole thing, check it out here. You can go straight to the downloads section as well, the calculator will be the first in the list.

You cannot use the EMC to retrieve public folder statistics.

This example returns the statistics for the public folder Marketing with a piped command to format the list.

Get-PublicFolderStatistics -Identity \Marketing | fl

Note:
The value for the Identity parameter must include the path. For example, if the public folder Marketing existed under the parent folder Business, you would provide the following value: \Business\Marketing

Using the following commands and comparing to Exchange 2003/2007 you can make sure that each of the folders are replicated fully.

Of all the migration tasks in Exchange, Public Folders take the most amount of time!

Good Luck

Now the reason this would happen, is if you are not a member of “Organization Management”, and this happens mainly if you were not the person that did the Exchange 2010 install. ie. Exchange 2010 was installed with a different userid.

All you have to do is add the proper userid’s to the “Organization Management” Group and you will be good to go.

Giving your users the ability to store more e-mail has many advantages. Large mailboxes keep e-mail on the Exchange Server instead of allowing it to be scattered in Outlook Data Files (.PST files). That helps reduce the risk of data loss, improve regulatory compliance, and increase productivity among both workers and IT staff. The main barrier to implementing large mailboxes is the perceived cost and complexity of storing large amounts of e-mail data. Microsoft® Exchange Server 2010 is specifically designed to overcome these barriers. This paper discusses how Exchange 2010 enables you to give users large mailboxes without breaking your budget.

Well I have been waiting for this update ever since I deployed Exchange 2010 into customer environments. I really didn’t like how I had to use Windows Server Backup to backup the whole VM, not being able to select Exchange in Backup Exec 12.5d was a little annoying. Knowing that this was on its way I put up with it, but no more! 2 main features that I like are the new VMware 4 and Exchange 2010 support. I will be deploying this as soon as it becomes available and follow up to this article and let you all know what I think.

Enhanced VMware vSphere 4.0 Support
Integrated backup and deduplication support for both online and offline VMware ESX 3.5 Update 2 and vSphere 4.0 – plus new first-to-market virtual application protection for Microsoft Exchange, SQL, and Active Directory. Now from a single-pass backup, administrators will also experience automated Log Truncation of a virtual machine applications. From that single backup, administrators can then easily recover either the virtual machine or granular application data such as Exchange mailboxes, messages, calendar items or individual Active Directory user accounts or objects

First-to-market granular recovery for applications
And in fact this is exactly what I am going to cover in this article. So sit back and grab a nice cup of fresh coffee and carry on reading.

Hey Everyone I was working on an Exchange 2003 to 2010 migration and came up with an error similar to this…

Microsoft.Exchange.MailboxReplicationService.MailboxReplicationTransientException: Exception details: MailboxReplicationTransientException (80040111): Mailbox database ‘a0dd10be-fa72-47bd-afb4-0bf3ce7175e’ is offline

I went to Exchange System Management on the Exchange 2003 Server and right clicked on the First Storage Group\Mailbox Store; Security Tab; then added a Computer Object(EXG01) and gave it Full Control… I was then able to use Exchange Server 2010 to utilize the “New Local Move Request” to the Exchange 2010 Database…

How did i figure this out? I found this link to Social.Technet.Microsoft.com and based on former user posts, figured out the solution… i also posted the answer there

I was the able to login to OutlookWebApp and check my mail…

Hope this helps out some people!
