It’s divided almost evenly in quarters, with very uneasy alignments into Republic and Democratic halves. One quarter want freedom: low taxes and freedom to smoke pot (libertarian Republican). Another wants significant business regulation and personal regulation to ensure we work fairly, eat properly and aren’t obese (do good Democrats). The third wants low taxes and strong family values, such as no same-sex marriage (“social conservative”). The final group wants strict control of big business, but freedom to smoke dope (laid-back Democrats). We’re pretty fractious within the “two party” straight-jacket.
