Harvard Law professor outlines OS evolution

According to Yochai Benkler, Professor of Entrepreneurial Legal Studies at Harvard, open source software is part of a shift to an economy driven by de-centralized non-market transactions. What the heck does that mean?

Yochai could probably tell you better himself, but it means that commerce is moving away from its home in the marketplace. The power to purchase is taking the place of the authority of institutions.

It means that a basic kindergarten tenet is coming into its own in our economy: sharing. The freedom to socially share is undermining Microsoft, the government and most centralized authorities’ ability to determine the course of events and money. Listen to Professor Benkler above to determine whether you agree.

The grand SearchEnterpriseLinux.com video experiment continues… This time I play the straight man to SearchDataCenter.com Site Editor Matt Stansberry’s … well, you’ll see.

In this video Matt and I look at all the free junk we’ve accumulated this week at LinuxWorld. Some of it’s pretty cool, and the rest is what it is. I come off kind of bored I think, but believe me, I’m not. THIS is new media at its finest.

Fun fact: Matt and I saw Barry Bonds hit his homer last night live from a “Frank Sinatra” bar in downtown San Francisco. Not quite as cool as seeing it live, but then again we’re really not that cool to begin with.

The Enterprise Linux Log’s first flash movie!

videos, SUSE/Novell

Yes, I know, YouTube and embedded flash movies are so 2006, but this is basically a test post to make sure we can handle it. Looks like we can. And yes, this clip from Novell BrainShare is also old as dirt, but it’s what came up under a “Linux” search on YouTube.
