Solution vs Application

What is the difference between a Solution and an Application? For me there is no difference, as they both exist as a result of some business requirement, they both might consist of programming code (albeit bought or custom written), they very likely need data to be kept somewhere and they both need infrastructure (hardware) to make it hum.

    Just a comment... a solution could be something different frm an application... like an storage/backup solution for some document management system.
