We can't have all of them? If forced to choose only one, I still think the CIO is best positioned for the future, IF that role continues to shift to accommodate and incorporate the activities that Chief Digital Officers are taking on. Seems to me the most effective CIOs already realize the need to step out of their data center niches to focus on the needs of the business - continuing to do that will help the position stay relevant.

Information is moving data and data with meanings.
But we have to forget the old type of CIO that looks after cutting costs only and support business ... CIO should be and must be a business enabler.

The digitisation will bring permanent change in the business, hence the role of CDO will fold in to CIO.

I voted Chied Data Officer because Data is most closely related to the business units and how they make decisions. So I think that this will be a lasting position

Data is the unfiltered content - it has no purpose other than as a method of recording values. These data points provide no direct value until that are turned into some useful.
Digital Officer is a pointless terminology - IT has been digital for over 50 years (since binary computation) and CDO is simply a popular buzz phrase with no value, other than as the butt of jokes!
