Deduplication – VERY Indeterministic

The data reduction technology, deduplication is very indeterministic, especially on primary workloads.  This was a good article but it is important to point out that a number of SSD only vendors are pushing this technology in order to drive the $/GB costs down.  In a number of customer engagements I have been on, customers are replacing their AFAs with Hybird or HDD arrays because they are not seeing the dedupe ratios promised by the SSD vendor and not hitting the price point they need.

Keep in mind, dedupe is great for data protection where there the data seen is very repetitive day after day but for primary workloads, this is not usually the case.
