I have four SQL Server installations to get done in the next couple of days. Not that this is a big deal or a task that is to overwhelming but I have to rant a bit. My lead time on these is not much. When my company orders a server, the group needing the server fills out some paperwork that details what the server will be used for and what needs to be installed. This then goes to the server build team, of wich I am not a part, and they get a couple weeks to get the build complete. Well say 12 days into the build time I get an email saying that this needs SQL Server installed and it has to be ready to go live in a day or two. Really, you had two weeks to get this done and you are just now telling me? You could not have sent me an email on day one just giving me a heads up so that I would be able to plan the time that I need to get the installs completed. Again it is not that doing an install is so tough that I need days to complete. It is usually a matter of hours for the install and the configuration, but I do other things during the day. I do not just wait for someone to tell me that SQL needs to be installed on a server. All I am asking for is a heads up so that I can better plan my time.
