Linear tape-open (LTO) technology has been around for many years, and it’s been implemented in many data storage environments. But there are several different types of LTO, ranging from LTO-1 all the way to LTO-4. And most recently, the LTO Consortium announced that it’s going to release LTO-5 later this year with several improvements up from LTO-4, including double the capacity.

I sat down with W. Curtis Preston, executive editor at TechTarget, and independent backup expert, and talked to him about the pros and cons of LTO technology, the differences between LTO-3, 4, and 5, and if LTO-5 is predicted to catch on in the data storage world.

Listen to the podcast below for his thoughts. And let us know your thoughts on LTO technology too.
