  • Clouds are constantly changing shape. And, if you’ve ever been inside one, it feels like you are in a fog rather than on firm ground. These are not sensations that will make many non-technical decision-makers feel very comfortable without a lot of hand-holding.
  • blades remain the hottest part of the server market. Between 2007 and 2012, Gartner predicts blade server shipments will see a compound annual growth rate of 19 percent. In 2007, blades represented 10 percent of all worldwide server shipments, and in 2012 that number will increase to 20 percent.
  • "It's going to be highly virtualized in all dimensions from the servers to the storage to the network and even application virtualization," Lechner said.
  • In an attempt to define the next stage of IT infrastructure, Dell wants to trademark the term "cloud computing." A detailed trademark application from Dell emerged after a week of cloud computing announcements from IBM, HP, Intel and Yahoo.
  • At the heart of this technology is the promise of making large-scale computing more efficient by allowing an enterprise to offload some or all of its IT infrastructure to a hosting provider and then allow that business to draw on applications and computing on demand through the Internet.
