MCSE: Is it still worth the certification?

Posted by: David Davis
certification, mcitp, mcse

I will say a resounding, YES. Even though Microsoft has done away with this certification, in favor of its MCITP path, there are still many senior level jobs on Microsoft’s own job search engine for MCSE’s and it is touted as a “badge of honor” in most of the business world.

For those of us who have MCSE Server 2003, Microsoft has provided a one certification upgrade exam that will equivocate to three Microsoft MCTS certifications. They are: Active Directory, Network Infrastructure, and Application Infrastructure Configuration. David, I am a software engg with 10 years of Telecom experience and we are now moving from TDM to Ethernet technology. Do you think it’s worth getting on of these certificates? Was primarily wondering about the Cisco ones?

Hi Amare,

As it sounds like you are more of a telecom / network engineer, I would recommend checking out the Cisco certifications instead of Microsoft. I suspect that is something that would be more applicable in your line of work. You could work for a reseller / consulting company with a combination of your years of telecom experience and Cisco knowledge.

My company, Train Signal, offers the full lineup of [A href="http://www.trainsignal.com"]video training products for Cisco certification[/A].
