WASHINGTON, D.C. — Symantec kicked off Partner Engage 2008 today by announcing two new partner programs: Symantec University for Partners and the Symantec Protection Network (SPN) Partner Program.

Symantec University for Partners offers new training and accreditations in both the sales and technical sides. The SPN Partner Program creates two specializations for partners that sell Software as a Service (SaaS), and partners that qualify for the higher Premier specialization can earn higher commissions.

Through Symantec University, partners can access new technical tools and product documentation to address customers’ needs better. The program also offers an online collaboration platform, where partners can share ideas and best practices.

Symantec said the SPN Partner Program will help solution providers sell the company’s SaaS platform, which as of now comprises Online Backup, Online Storage for Backup Exec and Online Remote Access. The company also plans to add services from its recent MessageLabs acquisition to the SPN.

Symantec University for Partners is available to all Symantec partners worldwide. Only partners in North America are eligible for the SPN Partner Program, and only Platinum, Gold and Silver Corporate partners can qualify for the Premier specialization.
