Raikes to head Gates Foundation

badarrow Barbara Darrow Profile: badarrow

Many wondered where Jeff Raikes was going after his retirement from Microsoft after 20-something years. Now we know: Raikes will be CEO of the Gates Foundation

In an NPR interview Monday afternoon, Bill and Melinda Gates talked about why Raikes is the guy for the job. Melinda talked about Raikes’ past work with the United Way of King County, in particular, as a sign that he’s a good fit.

That Raikes ran Microsoft’s multi-billion-dollar Office group for years means he’s used to dealing with really big numbers.
