Last month, SearchITChannel ran a story about Dell’s mission to build out a robust security software portfolio and attract specialized security-focused partners. Software, in general, is an area that Dell wants to grow with partners.

A couple of days ago, Dell released the findings of a survey of more than 200 technology professionals responsible for governance, risk and compliance (GRC) management at companies with more than 2,000 employees in the healthcare, retail and financial service sectors. The findings revealed a significant level of fear and lack of confidence among these IT professionals.

For savvy channel partners where there’s complexity and challenges for customers, there’s business opportunity.

A few findings from the Dell Software-commissioned survey:

  • Eighty-three percent of respondents believe their organization’s security would be improved if the security and compliance teams worked more closely together and shared more information.
  • Fifty-nine percent of respondents cited limited manpower, and 49% cited growth in the amount of data as the No. 1 and 2 causes, respectively, for concern in meeting their GRC objectives.
  • Companies are also concerned about their ability to prevent unauthorized access and changes to sensitive data that could potentially result in a data breach.
  • And, organizations are not confident that they capture the compliance data required to maintain regulatory standards and many report no consistent process for managing the volume of data required for regulatory control.

Dell recommended that businesses in regulated industries develop a comprehensive strategy for GRC management to mitigate a data breach and ensuing security blow.

For Dell channel partners with the requisite expertise to work with businesses in regulated industries, the survey highlights the need these organizations have for knowledge and proficiency in this area.

Dell Software also offers a number of compliance and identity and access management solutions to help maintain compliance and control of sensitive data for users.
