Keeping its word to expand its Internet of Things (IoT) specializations, Cisco today announced a suite of service provider technology specializations for partners interested in expanding into new business opportunities.

The new service provider specializations are designed to position Cisco partners to monetize on the growing IoT market, projected to be worth $19 trillion in 10 years, according to Steve Benvenuto, senior director of business development for Cisco’s worldwide partner organization, at the launch of the vendor’s first IoT specializations in November.

The new four service provider technology specializations are Advanced Service Provider Routing Technology Specialization, Advanced Service Provider Mobility Technology Specialization, Advanced Service Provider Optical Technology Specialization and Advanced Service Provider Architecture Specialization.

The Advanced Service Provider Routing Technology Specialization focuses on router solutions, particularly expertise in service provider core, edge and access routing technologies; optimization solutions; and software-defined networking (SDN).

The Advanced Service Provider Mobility Technology Specialization training will enable partners to sell new generations of mobile, small-cell and service provider Wi-Fi.

The new Advanced Service Provider Optical Technology Specialization focuses on optical solutions and how to offer packet switching, optical transport network (OTN), and Cisco Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDN) and IP over optical convergence products. The specialization also teaches partners how to work with Cisco Network Convergence System (NCS) 2000 and 4000 Series routers.

With the Advanced Service Provider Architecture Specialization, partners will learn about service provider routing technologies along with either service provider mobility or service provider optical technologies.

According to Cisco, the new suite of service provider technology specializations represents the company’s next generation of the Advanced IP Next-Generation Network (IP NGN) Architecture Specialization and the Mobile Internet Technology (MIT) Authorized Technology Provider (ATP) designation, which will be retired beginning in March 2015.

The new service provider technology specializations are currently available with additional program updates expected in 2015.

Thanks, Julia. Channel partners, how important were vendor certifications to your firm in 2014 and how important will they be in 2015?
