Software vendor Macrovision today announced a partnership to sell its AdminStudio application deployment tool through a major Citrix distributor.
Macrovision released new capabilities earlier this summer that allow AdminStudio to more easily perform custom installations of applications on virtual machines through the Citrix Presentation Server. Today’s deal with Alternative Technology, an Englewood, Colo.-based distributor, will help Macrovision reach more Citrix customers, said Corey Ferengul, Macrovision’s executive vice president of marketing and solutions.
“It is now available through standard channels that customers are used to working with,” he said. “The reality is, we’re not sitting with Citrix customers every day.”
AdminStudio helps IT managers properly configure new applications for the proper file formats, security standards and other specifics before deploying them. Before Macrovision added those virtualization capabilities, IT managers in virtualized environments had no easy way to make those configurations, and deployments could take hours, Ferengul said. And many IT managers would not even get into virtualization because they did not want to deal with that problem, he said.
“If I can’t put my application in, I can’t even begin (virtualizing),” he added. “This is one of those key market enablers.”
Macrovision has also formed partnerships with Citrix distributors in Europe and is pursuing more in North America, Ferengul said.
“We want to reach as much of the Citrix audience as possible,” he said.
