Adrian Jones, Barbara Darrow, Hewlett-Packard, IT channel products and technologies, Mark Hurd, Oracle, Sun
It’s not really announced yet but Adrian Jones, once the channel chief at Hewlett-Packard, is now at Oracle Corp.
But, somewhat surprisingly, he has not taken over Oracle’s new Sun hardware channel as many had expected. Instead he is senior vice president of Asia and Japan. Jones’ most recent job at HP had also been in Asia.
His start date was March 14. The Oracle switchboard has Jones listed but there was no direct phone number or manager.
Jones quietly left HP last month for parts unknown. Since former HP CEO Mark Hurd had brought Jones to HP and is now co-president of Oracle, many suspected Jones would end up at Oracle–most probably as head of the Sun hardware channel. It is unclear whether any noncompete agreements will be an issue.
Rick Chernick, CEO of Camera Corner Connecting Point in Green Bay,WIsc., an HP partner and associate of Jones said he’s excited for his friend’s new opportunity. “Personally, I wish he’d never left HP, but that’s history and I wish him well.”
Given the amped up competition between HP and Oracle these days, many expected the news to break just before HP’s Americas Partner Conference which kicks off March 27, so I guess we got a little bit ahead of that.
