Are you taking some time off for a summer vacation but need to keep up with what’s going on in the IT world? The ITKE team has you covered with the top three stories from the weekend.

1. Samsung beat Apple? Yes, it’s true, according to a report from the tech research firm IDC. The company saw a huge jump in smart phone sales selling over 50 million units with Apple only coming in at 26 million. Heather Clancy has more on the numbers.

2. Attention hackers: the NSA is looking for you! During this year’s Def Con Conference, NSA Director Keith Alexander appeared to talk to hackers about helping fight the battles on the Internet including cyber crime.

3. With rumors spreading about the iPhone 5’s expected fall release, several leaked photos have emerged showing what Apple might have in store for the new smartphone, including a bottom-mounted headphone jack and a new, smaller dock connector.
