With so many websites to log into, most people continue to use the same one, making it easy for hackers. This infographic from Password Genie shows several characteristics of ‘weak’ passwords and tips on how you can secure them.

Also, check out Ken Harthun’s blog (Security Corner), as he recently posted an article on Yahoo!’s list of the top 25 most popular (and insecure) passwords in 2012.

Are you taking some time off for a summer vacation but need to keep up with what’s going on in the IT world? The ITKE team has you covered with the top three stories from the weekend.

1. Samsung beat Apple? Yes, it’s true, according to a report from the tech research firm IDC. The company saw a huge jump in smart phone sales selling over 50 million units with Apple only coming in at 26 million. Heather Clancy has more on the numbers.

2. Attention hackers: the NSA is looking for you! During this year’s Def Con Conference, NSA Director Keith Alexander appeared to talk to hackers about helping fight the battles on the Internet including cyber crime.

3. With rumors spreading about the iPhone 5′s expected fall release, several leaked photos have emerged showing what Apple might have in store for the new smartphone, including a bottom-mounted headphone jack and a new, smaller dock connector.

As we track IT news every day, we hear and read a lot of things. Some are funny, some are serious, some are just a lot of hot air. Starting this week, we’ll be sharing the choicest tidbits with you in our new IT quotes feature. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and hopefully, you’ll be a little more informed about the always-entertaining world we inhabit.

“Blades are supermodels, rack-mount servers are the girl next door. I like the girl next door.”
- Dan Brinkmann, VMware vExpert and solutions architect speaking at BriForum on Thursday. If you couldn’t tell, this event was rife with quotes; see the #BriFoum hashtag for more. See if our users agree about the virtues of rack-mount servers.

“I think that Windows 8 is kind of a catastrophe for everybody in the PC space.”
- Gabe Newell, ex-Microsoft employee and co-founder of the Valve game platform, on the prospects for Microsoft’s new operating system (set to RTM soon) in a wide-ranging interview with VentureBeat.

“At Armageddon, we’ll have 1) Twinkies, 2) Cockroaches and 3) Devices running Windows.”
- Brian Madden, speaking during his annual BriForum event in Chicago. What version of Windows they’ll be running, that’s another question altogether.

“As an industry we’ve been telling people, ‘Buy our stuff, you’ll be magically safe. “I’m glad we’re finally saying, ‘God you’re screwed; buy our stuff when you are breached.’”
- Bruce Schneier, CTO of security firm BT Counterpane, speaking during a panel discussion at the annual Black Hat conference in Las Vegas.
